Five to seven
Grandad had one job that summer, and it was the geese. He got four steps out of the shed before the big white one came at him with her wings out like a bedsheet on a line. Corn went everywhere.
Eight to twelve
The bucket was galvanised tin and heavier than it looked, and by the time he reached the pump the goose had already decided about him. She came low and fast with her wings spread, hissing like a kettle, and the corn went up in a yellow arc and came down over the both of them. He did not stop running until the gate. His grandmother, who had watched the whole thing from the far side of it and had not moved an inch to help, wiped her eyes and said that she had been telling him for a fortnight to carry the bucket on the other side.

What happens at a sitting?
We arrange a telephone conversation of around forty-five minutes. You can begin with a place, a person, or a story you have told a hundred times. There is nothing to write or prepare. We ask permission before recording.
Is the sitting really free?
Yes. The sitting, recording and transcript are free, whether or not you ever order a book. We ask for no card details.
How much is the book?
The Storybook is US$149 for the first hundred commissions, then US$199. It includes a thirty-two-page illustrated clothbound book and postage within the United States. Extra copies are US$79 each. You decide about a book after the sitting.
Can I arrange it for my mum or dad?
Of course. Tell us who you have in mind and the best way to reach you. We will agree the arrangements with you before contacting them, and they can decide whether they would like to take part.
