What happens at a sitting?
We arrange a telephone conversation of around forty-five minutes. You can begin with a place, a person, or a story you have told a hundred times. There is nothing to write or prepare. We ask permission before recording.
Is the sitting really free?
Yes. The sitting, recording and transcript are free, whether or not you ever order a book. We ask for no card details.
How much is the book?
The Storybook is US$149 for the first hundred commissions, then US$199. It includes a thirty-two-page illustrated clothbound book and postage within the United States. Extra copies are US$79 each. You decide about a book after the sitting.
Can I arrange it for my mum or dad?
Of course. Tell us who you have in mind and the best way to reach you. We will agree the arrangements with you before contacting them, and they can decide whether they would like to take part.
Can we choose how it looks?
Yes. We settle the cloth, foil, endpapers and dedication after the sitting. These choices are included in the standard commission. A longer book, several stories or a special format can be quoted once we have heard what you have in mind.
Can the same story suit different ages?
Yes. We adapt the words and illustrations to the child: a few bold words for ages two to four, a picture-book story for five to seven, and a fuller illustrated story for eight to twelve. Tell us the grandchildren’s ages when you enquire.
Can we make changes before it is printed?
Yes. You receive the complete proof to read with your family. Corrections are part of the work, and we print only after you approve it.
How long does it take?
Allow two to three weeks from the sitting to the finished book. If someone is unwell or you have a particular date in mind, tell us when you enquire so we can discuss what is possible.
Who will I speak with online?
The conversation button connects you to our AI story assistant for questions and sitting requests. If you would prefer to speak with Oliver, ask for a callback. Your online conversation is separate from a full storytelling sitting.
What happens to our recording and story?
Your story stays private to your family. We ask before recording a sitting, and ask separately before using any family’s words or book publicly. You can request access to, or deletion of, your information. See our privacy page for details.
